Pale Rider is a classic Clint Eastwood movie.
Filmed in Columbia and Tuolumne County California,
the movie shows the adventurous time of the gold rush.
Clint Eastwood is a preacher who helps local miners
keep their stake while battling a corrupt, rich
businessman named Mr Coy LaHood.
Carbon Creek California is the setting where local tin pan miners are struggling because of corrupt mining boss Coy LaHood (played by Richard Dysart) and his men. Early in the movie the evil men kill the dog belonging to Megan (played by Sydney Penny). Hull Barret rides into town where he is beat up by the bad guys. Clint Eastwood rides into town and helps him out. In return Barret gives Clint Eastwood a place to stay. Later in the movie, Megan goes horseback riding and gets into trouble when she encounters Josh La Hood. He tries to rape her with Jaws and other evil men but Clint Eastwood arrives and saves the day. Clint Eastwood shoots Josh in the hand and rescues Magan. One of the locals finds a huge gold nugget only to be shot and killed by the corrupt Stockburn and his 'deputies'. He is shot multiple times and finally in the forehead in front of his boys. Sarah falls in love with Clint Eastwood and makes her feelings known. Taunts of "preacher..preacher..preacher" are heard the evening before the showdown. Clint Eastwood rides in with dynamite and Josh LaHood tries to shoot him. Jaws wrestles Josh's arm down and Clint Eastwood continues using dynamite. Barret tries to go with Clint Eastwood but Clint has a trick up his sleeve. Clint Eastwood drops a stick of dynamite so Barret gets off his horse and gets rid of it. However, the blast scares Barret's horse and Barret is left stranded without a horse. Clint Eastwood vividly showed his bravery in that moment by going into town alone.icks Clint Eastwood tricks the first group of men by drinking coffee with his back to the window. They empty all their bullets into the place only to find Clint Eastwood hiding around the corner. He easily shoots all of them and then strolls outside. Clint Eastwood leaves his hat in an open area and the 'deputies' begin looking for him. One by one Clint Eastwood is able to shoot the hunters as they split up looking for him. Finally Clint Eastwood shoots their leader and Barret keeps someon from shooting Clint Eastwood from behind a window. Clint Eastwood notes that Barret made a long walk as he rides off. Megan desperately wants to say bye to Clint Eastwood so she rides into town with 2 horses. She yells "preacer...preacher...we all love you preacher...i love you..thank you...good bye" Clint Eastwood is shown riding through the snow as her message is heard. Amazon.com essential video After a nine-year break from the genre that made him an international star (the Western just before this one was The Outlaw Josey Wales, from 1976), Clint Eastwood returned in this gritty Western, crafted in the tradition of Shane and High Noon. Eastwood directed and stars as the nameless stranger known only as "Preacher," because he rides into a beleaguered mining town wearing a clerical collar. He's either an agent of death or an angel of mercy, and the echoes of Shane ring loud and clear when he comes to the aid of independent miners who are being terrorized by a local tycoon (Richard Dysart) and his ruthless band of hired guns. Befriended by a miner (Michael Moriarty) and idolized by the miner's wife and daughter (played by Carrie Snodgress and Sydney Penny, respectively), the "Pale Rider" sparks the defiant spirit of the underdog miners and takes after the bad guys with single-minded purpose. Digital video disc offers standard and widescreen formats and a remastered soundtrack. --Jeff Shannon |
