Matrix Reloaded Posters

Much of the filming for the Matrix Reloaded was done in Northern California before the crew moved on to Australia. The Zion Temple which was a huge cave structure was shot in Alameda California. It was a huge area that held 2,000 people. In the film it was supposed to be located near the center of the earth where there was enough heat. In the movie the surface of the earth was cool because the sunlight did not come through.

The freeway chase for The Matrix Reloaded was shot just South of Oakland in California. The crew actually built their ownn freeway that was a mile and a half long. Their freeway had a wall almost 20 feet high as well as two overpasses. It was constructed on a runway at Alameda Naval Base in Northern California. When they were finished with the freeway set, they had tons of lumber and plywood left. It was then shipped to Mexico where it was used to build homes. Peter Novak, the location manager was recognized with a Humanitarian Award at the 7th Annual California Location Awards for putting the lumber to good use. It was a situation where everybody won as the California Film Commission was able to show gratitude for his thoughtfulness.
